Battle for the statues
The minute the Oscar nominations where announced, Hollywood updated their posters. “The King’s Speech: Nominated for 12 Oscars.”
Getting nominated for an Oscar is pretty easy nowadays. Every category has about a dozen nominations. If one year Danny Boyle’s movie doesn’t get nominated, he probably didn’t make one.
But Winning an Oscar is a totally different story. There’s real value in the tagline “winner of 5 Oscars.” There can be 10 nominations, but only one winner. And that’s the movie that wins the battle for the statues.
